Tampa Women's Cross Country Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships
LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's cross country team will return to the NCAA National Championships, as the Spartans finished third overall at the NCAA South Regional on Saturday at Holloway Park.
Head coach Logan Wells leads the Spartans to national for the fourth consecutive season, as the appearance will be the 19th in program history.
The women's championship came down to the wire, with Palm Beach Atlantic edging Lee (Tenn.) by a single point, 76–77, to claim the regional title. Tampa finished third with 87 points, just 11 points off the win in one of the closest South Region outcomes in years.
Individually, Lauren Wallace (Mississippi College) captured the regional title in 21:18.27, followed by Maria Mitchell (Lee) and Addi Aguayo (Union). Tampa's Lindsey Volkman continued her standout season, placing 6th in 21:43.01, while Taylor Guthrie (13th) and Hannah Diete (19th) also finished inside the top 20 to power the Spartans to the podium.
