Tampa Moves Up One Spot in National Top 25
NEW ORLEANS, La. - After coming in as the 22nd ranked team in the nation one week ago, The University of Tampa women's cross country team moved up one spot as the 21st ranked team in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Rankings.
Ranked 17th in the nation in the initial top-25 poll, the Spartans dropped five spots to 22 after a second-place finish to Florida State University at the FSU Invite.
Through three races, the Spartans have a pair of second place finishes to go with one top finish. After placing second at the Gator Invite to open the season, UT won the Early Bird Classic before a runner-up finish at the FSU Invite. Both second place finishes came to Division I teams in FSU and the University of Florida.
Tampa has held its own against top teams from the Division I and II ranks. Among the notable teams Tampa has outperformed this season are South Florida Central Florida, North Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida State (at Gator Invite), Miami, Florida gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Florida A&M and Florida International.
UT has also defeated fellow Sunshine State Conference teams Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Florida Tech, Rollins and Saint Leo.
After taking last week off, the Spartans are back in action on Saturday at it travels to the Wide World of Sports in Orlando for the Disney Classic.
