Bio
Cody Liner enters his 12th year as part of the University of Tampa Volleyball Program, bringing a unique blend of high-performance team operations, athlete development, event management, and championship coaching experience to his role as a Volunteer Assistant Coach.
Liner currently serves as Manager of Outdoor & International Events at USA Volleyball, where he oversees and leads the planning and execution of major international and outdoor competition initiatives. In this role, he directs operations for both national-level beach and other outdoor events and international-focused tournaments hosted domestically.
Previously, Cody served as Lead of the Beach National Team Development Program (NTDP) at USA Volleyball, where he was central to identifying and preparing the next generation of elite athletes. As Team Lead, he helped guide one of the most successful performances in program history at the 2024 FIVB U19 Beach World Championships, where Team USA's Girls U19 pairs claimed both gold and bronze medals, and both Boys U19 teams earned top-10 finishes—an achievement that marked one of the program’s strongest collective showings on the world stage.
In recognition of his contributions to athlete development and leadership in the sport, Cody was honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 Beach Award in 2024.
In addition to his national team work, Cody has played an important role in shaping NCAA Division II powerhouse University of Tampa Volleyball, where he has been on staff for over a decade. During his tenure, the Spartans have earned numerous conference and national titles, including the 2014, 2018, and 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships, the 2022 and 2023 Sunshine State Conference Championships, and the 2023 South Regional Championship. He contributed significantly to the 2014 season, in which Tampa posted a dominant 34–1 record and went a perfect 16–0 in conference play.
At UT, Cody’s responsibilities have included DataVolley and VolleyStation statistical analysis, practice and training support, and in-match tactical coaching. His attention to detail, preparation, and communication have helped sustain one of the most successful volleyball programs in the country under Hall of Fame Head Coach Chris Catanach, contributing to multiple SSC titles and the development of National Player of the Year and All-American athletes.
Beyond coaching, Cody has a strong background in sports event management and brand presentation, having worked with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission on high-profile national and international events. Most notably, he served as a Creative Specialist for Super Bowl LV, where he helped deliver branded experiences and activations in collaboration with the NFL. His broader event work includes support roles with the NCAA Women’s Final Four, the College Football Playoff National Championship, and numerous grassroots and championship-level volleyball events—experience that gives him a well-rounded, professional perspective on sport as both competition and community.
As a coach and sports professional, Cody Liner brings a rare combination of international experience, technical knowledge, and athlete-focused leadership. Whether mentoring college athletes in pursuit of championships or guiding junior talent to the world stage, he brings energy, precision, and a deep passion for the game to every team he supports.
A proud alumnus of The University of Tampa, Liner graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management and a minor in Marketing. He continued his education while serving on the volleyball staff as Graduate Assistant from 2017–2018, earning his master’s in business administration from the Sykes College of Business in the Spring of 2019. His time as a student-athlete staff member helped build the foundation for his dual-track career in coaching and sports business operations.
Liner is from Virginia Beach, Va., where he graduated from First Colonial High School with an Advanced Diploma. He served as Senior Class President and captain of the men’s varsity volleyball team during his senior year. He was a member of the First Colonial volleyball team all four years of his high school career.
