Spartans Claim No. 20 Rank in Latest AVCA Poll
The Tampa volleyball team climbs up one spot after a 3-0 weekend at the South Region Crossover.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Tampa volleyball team moves up one spot to the No. 20 ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II coaches poll, as announced Monday.
The Spartans sit No. 20 in the nation after a 3-0 weekend at the South Region Crossover in Orlando, Fla. UT swept its trio of opponents in the weekend tournament, defeating Christian Brothers, Shorter and Union without dropping a set.
Minnesota-Duluth maintains the top spot as the Bulldogs own a pristine 19-0 record, the only undefeated team in D-II. Southwest Minnesota State slides into the No. 2 spot after defeated former second-ranked Concordia St. Paul in five sets. The Golden Bears of CUSP dip to the No. 3 rank after the upset loss. Rounding out the top-five are No. 4 Nebraska-Kearny and No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit.
Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern College falls to No. 25 after suffering a 3-1 loss at the hands of unranked Alabama-Huntsville. The Chargers bested the Mocs to close out the South Region Crossover. Provisional SSC program Palm Beach Atlantic sits No. 12 in the latest poll, up two spots from last week's release.
UT has been ranked for 277 consecutive polling periods dating back to the 1995 season. The active program record ranks second in the nation to Central Missouri, as the Jennies hold the No. 16 rank in the most recent poll.
