Wagner Picks Up 3rd-Straight SSC Player of the Week Award

MELBOURNE, Fla. - After earning MVP honors at the GSC/SSC South Region Crossover, senior University of Tampa volleyball athlete Jessica Wagner garners her third consecutive Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week award, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The middle blocker earns her third-straight selection for her offensive efforts from Oct. 12-18, leading the No. 2 Spartans to a 3-0 weekend at the crossover.

Wagner hit an astounding .556 attack percentage with 36 kills across 10 sets of play, adding 12 blocks and four digs on defense.

The senior began the tournament with an errorless 14-kill showing against Shorter, terminating the ball at an efficient .667 attack percentage. Wagner added three blocks for UT as they swept the Hawks in straight-sets.

Continuing her strong weekend, the Cape Coral, Fla. native added another 14-kill onslaught against North Alabama that same day. The middle swung at a .480 clip while adding seven blocks to defeat the Lions in four sets.

Wagner posted an errorless 8-for-14 attack to close out the series against West Alabama. The tournament Most Valuable Player notched a .571 attack percentage to go along with a pair of blocks as the Spartans emerged from crossover action with three wins.

On the season, Wagner leads the SSC in hitting percentage with a .456 clip across 19 matches. The 2014 AVCA All-American has 207 total kills, averaging 3.00 per set. Defensively, the middle blocker has 68 total blocks, including 14 solo stops, averaging 0.99 per set to lead Tampa.
