Berkley Whaley Garners SSC Player of the Week
The outside hitter picks up the accolade for the 15th time in her storied career.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Outside hitter Berkley Whaley has been named the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the University of Tampa Volleyball team to a pair of victories to close out the regular season.
The No. 6 Spartans concluded the regular season at home with a 26-5 record and a 15-1 conference mark to earn its 11th consecutive SSC Championship.
The offensive accolade marks the second this season for Whaley, as the senior has totaled five Player of the Week honors this year. On her career, Whaley has picked up the weekly award 15 times, with 12 of them being for her stellar offensive efforts.
Whaley torched the opposition with 37 kills at an astounding .461 clip to average 5.29 kills per set. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native committed just two attack errors in 76 swings, posting a double-double in her most recent win over Nova Southeastern. The Spartans closed out the week hitting .290 as a team thanks to the efficient swing of Whaley.
Joining Whaley as the SSC Defensive Player of the Week is Florida Southern outside hitter Anna Tovo, who earned the honor for the second time this season following two key Florida Southern home victories. In the five-set win over No. 9 Palm Beach Atlantic, Tovo led Florida Southern in recording a team-high 27 digs. Tovo's 27 digs is a career best and second most for a Moccasin this season. In a 3-1 victory against Barry, Tovo tallied 15 digs, 15 kills, and two of her three blocks for the week. Her two double-doubles this week give her a team-best 17 for the season.
