Spartans Defeat Eckerd 3-1 on the Road

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa volleyball team (11-1, 4-0 SSC) continued their undefeated Sunshine State Conference streak Thursday night with a 3-1 win (25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17) over the Eckerd College Tritons (8-6, 1-5 SSC). The away victory marked the Spartans' 40th-consecutive SSC triumph since 2011, a school and conference record.

Despite dropping the second set of the match, Tampa made quick work of the Tritons, rallying for a four-set victory to remain undefeated in conference play and improve to 11-1 on the regular season. The Spartans earned a .364 attack percentage on the evening, tallying 60 kills total as four Spartans recorded double-digit kills.

Junior outside hitter Berkley Whaley led the way for the Spartans, registering 15 kills and earning a .464 attack average. This effort came just two days after being selected as the Sunshine State Conference offensive player of the week.

Sophomore Allee Stelogeannis and junior middle blocker Jessica Wagner followed Whaley's lead with 11 kills each, while senior middle blocker Meagan Burke swatted ten. From her setter role, senior Kahley Patrick guided her team to offensive success with 45 assists on the night.

Freshman Molly McAlvany, who recently stepped into the libero role, tallied 17 digs in the match to lead the Spartans defensively. Wagner and Patrick also contributed heavily at the net with four and three block assists, respectively.

The Spartans will host the Lynn University Fighting Knights on Friday, Oct. 3 before wrapping up weekend play on Saturday against the visiting Florida Tech Panthers. Friday night's match is set for 7:00 p.m. from the Martinez Center on the campus of the University of Tampa.
