Tampa Volleyball Names Brian Imperiale Assistant Coach

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa volleyball program has chosen Brian Imperiale as its top assistant coach, as announced on Monday by head coach Chris Catanach.

"We are very pleased that Brian Imperiale has accepted our offer to join our coaching staff," says Catanach. "He is a very bright individual with an engaging personality, who will help our coaching staff and players continue to grow and improve. Brian will direct our recruiting efforts and opponent scouting as well as assist with all coaching aspects. Brian will join us on March 5."

Imperiale previously completed his second year at the University of South Florida on head coach Courtney Draper's staff in 2013. At USF, he helped with recruiting, scouting and team development process.

Imperiale helped develop Erin Fairs into the 2012 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year as well as the 2013 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and is part of a staff who has turned out back-to-back winning seasons at USF for the first time since 2009. Imperiale helped the Bulls to a fourth-place finish in The American, their best conference finish since 2002.

Draper added Imperiale to her staff as an assistant after he spent the past three seasons with Florida Southern College. Imperiale enjoyed a "hands-on" experience with Florida Southern, doing a little bit of everything for Mocs head coach Jill Stephens before moving on to USF.

Imperiale has been heavily involved in club volleyball, coaching with Pinellas Heat from 2003-2010. Imperiale's 2007 Heat team was the first in the club to qualify for the Junior Olympics, and his teams qualified for the rest of his tenure with the program.

In 2010, Imperiale was named the Florida Region Male Coach of the Year. He also coached his 16-and-under team to a second place finish in the open division of the 2010 AAU National Championships.
During his time with Florida Southern, Imperiale opened and was the director for Southern Select Club Volleyball in Lakeland, Fla.

Imperiale also served as an assistant coach for the Team Florida High Performance squad from 2007-2010, and was a head coach for Team Florida HP in 2012. Imperiale's team took home the Youth Division gold medal in 2010, and secured a bronze medal in the Select Division in 2012.

Imperiale earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Florida State in 2002 after playing in the Seminoles' club volleyball program. He also has two sons, Drew and Sean.
