Tampa, Fla. - The second-ranked University of Tampa volleyball team completed the 2006 Tampa Classic with a 3-1 victory over 15th-ranked Lock Haven. The Spartans are now 4-0 on the season as Lock Haven falls to 1-1.
Tarah Marinelli led Tampa with a team-high 21 kills. Katelen Dixon and Stephanie Rivera also added 14 kills apiece. Marinelli and Dixon recorded double-doubles as they recorded 14 and 11 digs respectively. Margeaux Sinibaldi led the Spartans in digs with 26.
The Spartans, who won the first two games, dropped the third game before sealing the victory in the fourth game. Tampa finished with a .313 hitting percentage and held the opponent to .196. Tampa had six total blocks. They also notched eight service aces, four of which came from Marinelli.
Tampa is back in action on Friday, September 1 when they face West Texas A&M and Augustana (S.D.) in the Premier Tournament at Denver, Colo. Game times are scheduled for 12:00 noon and 7:30 pm.
