National Champion Tampa Volleyball Honored By Mayor
TAMPA, Fla. - City of Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio proclaimed Monday, January 22 as "University of Tampa Women's Volleyball Team Day" at a press conference at the mayor's office.
The event was held in honor of the national champion Spartans, who captured the program's first NCAA II title on November 18, 2006. With the team and coaches in attendance, Mayor Iorio presented the team with the proclamation followed by the team presenting the mayor with a volleyball signed by the 2006 national champions.
"We sincerely appreciate Mayor Iorio and her office taking the time out of their day to honor the team," says head coach Chris Catanach. "The entire team was extremely excited and enjoyed the support of the mayor."
This marks the second proclamation by the mayor for UT Athletics following the recognition of the national championship baseball team on June 28, 2006.
