Four Tampa Players Selected to AVCA All-Region Team, Three Others Earn Honorable Mention
Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa volleyball received more good news after their victory over Dowling in the national quarter-finals. Seven of their players were chosen by the American Volleyball Coaches Association to be on the All-South Region team.
Katelen Dixon, Alisha Green, Stephanie Rivera and Margeaux Sinibaldi were chosen for the AVCA All-South Region team, while Gabriela Saade, Erin Clark and Danielle MacDonald received honorable mention.
The junior outside hitter Dixon , makes her second appearance on the AVCA team repeating the feat from a year ago. She is the team leader in kills (409) and attempts (1063), as she has been the number one offensive option for the Spartans most of the season.
As a redshirt freshman, Green has had a dominate year at her middle blocker position. Her 324 kills is good enough for second on the team and she lead the team in blocks with 110. Green is also the only freshman to receive the nod for this year's south region team.
Returning All-American, senior Rivera was recognized for the third time as a part of the south region team. Before being sidelined with a season ending knee injury Rivera had 298 kills and had her hand in 62 blocks.
For the second time in her collegiate career, Sinibaldi received all-region honors. The junior libero has dug 555 balls this season and has a large part to do with opponents only hitting .134 this season.
Sophomore setter, Saade has improved her play as the year has progressed and she has been rewarded with an honorable mention nod, her first recognition by the AVCA.
Erin Clark had a breakout season for herself and she also received honorable mention accolades. She has been a force of her own in the middle blocker position with 250 kills and 75 blocks.
MacDonald has had an amazing post season, leading the team in kills in three of their four postseason matches. The right side is hitting a team leading .382, she also has a team season-high of 28 kills.
Tampa led all teams with seven entrants selected to this year's all-region squad.
