Spartans Smash Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURGthe 32nd-ranked University of Tampa tennis team recorded its second victory over Eckerd College this season, handing the Tritons a 7-2 loss. Tampa improve to 13-7 overall and 2-5 in Sunshine State Conference action with the victory while Eckerd slips to 1-9 and 1-6 in league play.

The lone matches Tampa dropped were the number one singles and one doubles spots and each of the other matches went easily in favor of UT. In doubles, the number two team of Jessica Faber and Allison Beck won 8-0 as the three team of Caitlin Scudder and Claire Darling notched an 8-1 victory.

In singles, freshmen Jamie Lieberman and Kourtney Stark were each victorious at the two and three spots while the four through six individuals of Scudder, Beck and Lindsey McLendon also won. Scudder and Beck each blanked their opponents in straight sets without giving up a game.

Tampa concludes the regular season on Friday, April 13, as it hosts Saint Leo at 3 p.m.
