Tampa Swimming Continues to Lead Pack at Shark Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - With three days
complete and heading to the final day of competition, the
University of Tampa has moved even closer to winning both the men's
and women's swimming team championships at the Shark
Invitational.
The Spartan women have been in first-place all three days, and
now have a toital of 1,234.5 points. UT has built a solid lead over
Florida Southern (990.5), Nova Southeastern (988.5), Lynn (379),
Rollins (330.5) and Lenoir-Rhyne (177).
UT's men have also led all teams throughout, and have
registered 1,357 total points heading to the final day. Tampa leads
Nova Southeastern (1,176.5), Florida Southern (1,007), Rollins
(303.5) and Lenoir-Rhyne (303.5).
In women's action, freshman Brittany Bayes was second in the
500 Free with an NCAA B time of 4:56.02. Allison Chandler also
finished second in the 100 Back as the freshman was clocked at
57.84.
UT's women's 800 Free Relay team also finished second with an
NCAA A cut. The team of Lexi Webb, Briana Murphy, Erin Plachy and
Bayes were timed at 7:31.21.
On the men's side, Zane Hranac finished first in the 200 Fly
with a B time of 1:48.40. Also finishing in the top-three were
Tommy Reminger in the 500 Free with a third-place NCAA B time of
4:34.04. Jordan Augier was third in the 100 Back with a B time of
49.63. Clayton Clemens was also second in the 100 Breast with a
time of 56.14.
The men's 800 Free Relay team also finished first with an NCAA
A qualifying time. Runar Borgen, Jeremy Parker, Martin Hammer and
Derek Krell were the first to the finish line with a mark of
6:36.89.
Tampa concludes competition at the Shark Invitational on
Sunday, with the prelims scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the 4
p.m., finals portion of the day that will determine the 2014 team
champions.
