Spartans Hold Lead After First Day at Shark Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Both the University
of Tampa swimming teams are in first place after the first of four
days of competition at the fifth annual Shark Invitational, which
is hosted by Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern
University.
On the men's side, UT has 405 points to edge Florida Southern
(293), Nova Southeastern (269), Rollins (88) and Lenoir-Rhyne
(48).
The Spartan women have 344 points, with Florida Southern
(274), Nova Southeastern (247), Lynn (103), Rollins (86) and
Lenoir-Rhyne (39) all trailing.
UT posted several NCAA provisional times as the men were led
by a pair of top-three performances, including Tommy Reminger with
a third-place finish in the 1,000 Free (9:25.43, NCAA B). Khalid
Aldaboos also turned in a second-place showing in the 50 Free with
a "B" time of 20.46.
The 200 Medley Relay team also finished second as the group of
Augier, Wayne Denswil, Runar Borgen and Jeremy Parker were clocked
at 1:29.51, an NCAA A effort.
On the women's side, freshman Brittany Bayes began the finals
with a second-place finish in the 1,000 Free. Her time was logged
at 10:05.66, good for an NCAA B qualification.
A pair of Spartans scored provisional times in the 50 Free, as
Erin Plachy and Marisa Barton finished second and third
respectively with times of 23.53 and 23.54.
Tampa returns to the pool on Friday, with the prelims
scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the 5 p.m., finals portion of
the day.
