Spartans And Buccaneers Ends In Double OT
TAMPA, Fla - The University of Tampa women's soccer team battled the No. 7 Barry University Buccaneers in a thrilling Sunshine State Conference matchup Saturday night. The Spartans ended up earning a 1-1 draw.
First half action was a back and forth battle with both sides relying heavy on their counter attack looking to notch the first goal of the match, but neither side was successful as they went into the half deadlocked at 0-0. Barry peppered goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard as they fired off 12 shots.
The second half of play started off with a bang, as the Buccaneer's midfielder Lavina Nkomo trickled a shot by Tampa's Frykgard to take a 1-0 lead at the 46-minute mark. Just moments later at the 53-minute mark senior captain Lauren Moore would bring her side level as she drove home a shot 20 yards out past Barry's keeper Paula Forero. Both sides would continue to push looking for the game-winner, but were unsuccessful as they ended regulation 1-1.
Overtime was an intense affair as both teams looked to put the game away, but both sides were blanked as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The Spartans almost put the game away on multiple occasions after near misses by Korey O'Rourke, Cici Gonzalez, and Nastasia Asgedom.
