Lynn Adds Late Goal to Draw Tie With No. 17 Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. - The No.17 University of Tampa (11-1-1, 1-1-1 SSC) women's soccer team and Lynn University (2-5-3, 0-1-2 SSC) sparred for 110 minutes to conclude in a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening at Pepin Stadium.

Lynn registered the first goal within the first 10 minutes as Lauren Handley headed the ball off a cross from Linzi Martin soaring past keeper Alyson Gregorowicz.

The Spartans quickly responded as Cici Gonzalez rocketed a shot passed the Knights' goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1. Gonzalez' goal was assisted by Chelsea Martin, who made her second start of the season.

Right before the half, Tampa took the lead when Cina Salemi rifled the ball towards the goal, the slipped through the Lynn goalkeeper's hands right to Kaley Ward for the easy empty net goal. The goal put the Spartans up at halftime 2-1. The Knights made a quick keeper substitution from Caitlin Shaver to Meghan Dolan following the first half.

Strong Spartan defense kept the Knights scoreless in the second half until the final minute of regular play. Midfielder Lina Forsman rocketed a corner kick to fellow midfielder Lauren Handley who completed the play with a weak side goal sending the match into overtime. Both the Spartans and the Knights registered seven shots throughout the period.

Both Tampa and Lynn fought hard during both overtime periods; however, neither team was able to convert on the board. Gregorowicz captured seven saves throughout the match. Dolan tallied four saves.
