No. 8 Tampa Puts Finishing Touches on Perfect Week

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 8 University of Tampa Spartans (3-0) defeated the Florida Memorial University Lions (0-2) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 11-0 at Pepin Stadium.

Alyson Gregorowicz got the Spartans on the board in the sixth minute of the match on a header off the corner kick from Emily Jones, who was credited with the assist.

Tampa would go on to score four goals and take a commanding 5-0 lead into the half. Jones, Shannon Walisch, Gabby Russo, and Taylor Moos each found the back of the net for the Spartans in the period.

In the second half, Tampa continued to dominate the pitch as the Spartans went on to score six goals for the 11-0 victory. Cici Gonzalez connected for two goals, while Russo, Jones, Gregorowicz, and Audrey Hayward each chipped in a goal apiece in the second half.

The Spartans controlled the match from start to finish, coming away with a decisive advantage in both shots (53-2) and shots on goal (19-1). Tampa also had 29 corner kicks, compared to two for Florida Memorial.

Kaley Ward, Lauren Cicero, Chelsea Martin, Jenny Karl, and Arielle Gonzalez each tallied two shots on the afternoon for the Spartans, with 15 UT players garnering at least one shot. Jess Frank and Jones each contributed two assists in the match.

Kori Butterfield recorded her third consecutive shutout as the senior goalkeeper saved the lone shot on goal by the Lions.
