Head Coach Gerry Lucey Speaks About Preseason Women’s Soccer Impressions
TAMPA, Fla. - One week into fall practices, University of Tampa women's soccer coach Gerry Lucey answered some questions about his team, offering some insight on his team for the upcoming season.
Have there been any surprises?
"Yes, we have been pleasantly surprised with the overall fitness
levels and the girls seem determined to impress and enjoy their
college soccer."
How have the newcomers adapted to life at
UT?
"It is still early yet, but I must say that they have been
excellent so far. It's not easy walking into this environment and
having to adapt to new faces, weather, and practicing with new
coaches. I have been happy with their attitude and look forward to
seeing how we can help develop them in the coming months."
Has the team been presented with any
challenges?
"Our main hurdle right now is getting all our players eligible and
then hopefully we can face this challenge at full strength."
What impressions stick out most about this year's
team?
"So far the positive attitude and willingness to listen and learn.
We have enjoyed being out there with them and trying to get so many
new faces on the same page."
If you had to describe the team with one word, what
would it be?
"Determined"
What team building activities has the team participated
in?
"We have a couple planned for the weekend and next week but nothing
out of the ordinary so far."
What are some of the strengths with this year's
team?
"We are more athletic than last year and we are better technically.
Obviously we are very young but the future is very bright."
What are your team goals for the upcoming
season?
"To battle away one game at a time and see where we stand at
season's end. As always, we want to win the SSC and being voted
fourth will provide some extra incentive."
What can fans do to show their support for your
team?
"Be positive in their support of the team and help these
exceptional young women to showcase their talent. We have enjoyed
the benefit of strong support the past few years and these young
players would love to feel that energy."
