Spartans Take Pair of Second-Place Finishes at SIRA

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Tampa rowing team competed at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships on Saturday and Sunday, placing second in the finals in a pair of events.

Tampa's lightweight 4+ team was second with a time of 7:46.33 as UT trailed only Georgia Tech. In that race, the Spartans outpaced Clemson, Purdue, Texas and Florida.

UT was also second in the lightweight novice 4+ with a time of 8:02.78. Purdue won the race as Tennessee-Chattanooga, Georgia and Clemson each trailed Tampa.

The Spartans will con clude the 2014-15 season on Friday at the 2015 Sunshine State Conference Championships. The event will take place at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
