Tampa Advances to SSC Semifinals
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away from Lynn University, securing a 17–11 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. With the win, the Spartans improve to 11-4 overall.
How It Happened
Lynn jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the opening minutes, but Tampa responded with a goal from Josie Bullock to cut the deficit to one heading into the second quarter.
The Spartans found their rhythm in the second period, opening with a goal from Mary Kate Person to even the score. After Lynn pushed back ahead, Tampa surged with a 3–0 run behind two more goals from Person and a strike from Grace Lichtenberger. The teams traded goals late in the half, with Tampa taking a narrow 6–5 lead before Lynn equalized in the final minute to make it 6–6 at halftime.
Lynn regained the lead early in the third quarter, but Tampa answered once again. Goals from Peyton Howell, Jenna Myhal, and Lichtenberger helped the Spartans reclaim momentum in a tightly contested frame. The teams entered the fourth quarter deadlocked at 9–9.
Tampa took control in the final period, erupting for eight goals to break the game open. Sarah Bette sparked the run with the go-ahead goal, followed by consecutive tallies from Myhal and Audrey Kahoun. After Lynn briefly cut into the lead, Tampa responded with a decisive 5–0 stretch, highlighted by multiple scores from Howell and Bullock, to seal the 17–11 victory.
Spartan Performances
- Peyton Howell, Mary Kate Person, Jenna Myhal, and Josie Bullock each recorded hat tricks to lead the offense.
- Howell added two assists for a five-point performance, while Person also contributed two assists.
- Grace Lichtenberger chipped in two goals and an assist, and Audrey Kahoun added a pair of goals.
- Tampa controlled possession with a 20–7 advantage in draw controls, led by Isabella Avila (10) and Kierstyn Zinter (9).
- The Spartans held a 39–20 edge in shots and finished with 25 shots on goal.
- Savvy Barbosa earned the win in goal, recording six saves over 60 minutes.
