Tampa Remains No. 2 In Latest USA LAX Magazine Ranking Following SSC Championship Victory
TAMPA, Fla. – For the second straight week, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse team holds the No. 2 spot in the USA Lacrosse Division II Women's Top 20, following its 15–13 victory over No. 3 Florida Southern in the Sunshine State Conference championship game. The Spartans have now captured three straight SSC tournament titles and are poised with the top seed in the South Region entering next week's NCAA Tournament.
With Selection Sunday approaching, Tampa stands at 17–1 overall and enters the postseason on an 11-game win streak. The defending national champions are looking to repeat and secure the program's second NCAA title after winning it all in 2024.
Tampa has faced one of the toughest schedules in the country, with nine of its opponents currently ranked in the USA Lacrosse Division II Women's Top 20. The Spartans are 8–1 in those matchups, earning wins over No. 3 Florida Southern (twice), No. 4 Maryville, No. 5 Embry-Riddle, No. 6 Lynn, No. 8 Pace, No. 8 Saint Leo (twice), and No. 10 UIndy. Their only loss came in overtime to Embry-Riddle in late March. The Spartans also posted dominant victories over previously ranked or "also considered" teams like Rollins, Florida Tech, and Mercy, further reinforcing their strength of schedule ahead of the NCAA Tournament.
Selections for the 24-team NCAA bracket will be announced Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET.
