Kiira Riihijarvi Set to Make History at Augusta National Women's Amateur
AUGUSTA, Ga. - University of Tampa women's golfer Kiira Riihijarvi is set for another program first as she will compete at the 2021 Augusta National Women's Amateur.
The Augusta National Women's Amateur will be held March 31 - April 3 at Champions Retreat Golf Club and Augusta National Golf Club. An international field of 82 amateurs will play over 54 holes of stroke play, with a cut coming after 36 holes for the top 30 players.
Riihijarvi found success in her native Finland in 2020, winning the Finnish Amateur Championship for the second consecutive year as well as a Finnish Golf Union professional event. She also finished runner-up in a professional match play tournament. Riihijarvi advanced to the round of 32 at The Women's Amateur Championship in August 2020.
A senior at the University of Tampa, Riihijarvi, has finished first overall in all three tournaments in 2021, winning two medalists. She won consecutive collegiate events in the fall of 2019 – the Lady Falcon Invitational and the NSU Shark Invitational – and followed those victories with a runner-up finish at the Lady Moc Classic. She won four times in all in 2019, including the Sunshine State Conference championship, and earned SSC Player of the Year honors. Overall, Riihijarvi has captured medalist honors a total of 12 times as a Spartan.
The 2019-20 WGCA National Player of the Year, Riihijarvi is a four-time All-American. She was also selected as the recipient of the 2019-20 WGCA Division II Juli Inkster Senior Award.
In 2019, the inaugural year, Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest shot a final-round 5-under 67 at Augusta National to beat Mexico's Maria Fassi by four strokes.

- NBC will broadcast three hours of live final-round coverage on Saturday, April 3, from noon - 3 p.m. EDT.

- The 36-hole cut at Champions Retreat will be for the top 30 players. There will not be any ties. If there is a playoff to determine who advances to the final round, it will be streamed live Thursday, April 1, on ANWAgolf.com, as well as on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The entire field will have the opportunity to play a practice round at Augusta National on Friday, April 2.
- The Augusta National Women's Amateur trophy ceremony will also be streamed live, Saturday, April 3, on the aforementioned digital platforms.
- Golf Channel's "Golf Today" and "Golf Central" will deliver on-site highlights, live reports and news coverage throughout the championship. "Live From the Masters" will begin Friday, April 2, at Augusta National to provide coverage.
The Augusta National Women's Amateur was announced on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, by Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley during his annual press conference at the Masters Tournament. The event was established to inspire greater interest and participation in the women's game by creating a new, exciting and rewarding pathway for these players to fulfill their dreams.
