HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Tampa set the tone immediately, opening the game with an Alanis Diaz layup followed by back-to-back three-pointers from Amy Thompson. The Spartans were locked in defensively from the opening tip, forcing turnovers and limiting Saint Leo's offensive rhythm. Ryan Franklin attacked the paint with confidence, while Faith Pickens capitalized at the free-throw line. Giorgia Palmieri added to the defensive pressure with an early steal as Tampa closed the first quarter holding a commanding 33–11 lead.
The Spartans continued to build momentum in the second quarter. Diaz remained aggressive offensively, and Tampa's ball movement led to high-quality looks. A timely steal from Olivia Davis late in the half set up a Brooklynn Butler three-pointer, sending Tampa into the break with a decisive 55–23 advantage.
Second Half
Tampa showed no signs of slowing down to start the third quarter, continuing to fire on all cylinders offensively. Smart ball movement from Jade Thompson helped the Spartans maintain control. Saint Leo found a brief spark behind the three-point shooting of Jocely Gagnon, but Pickens and Franklin continued to work effectively in the paint to keep Tampa in front. The Spartans ended the third quarter up 73–47.
In the final period, Tampa remained efficient on both ends of the floor. Franklin recorded a double-double and surpassed the 1,000-career-point mark, while the Spartans stayed sharp at the free-throw line, finishing the night shooting 86 percent. Tampa eclipsed the 100-point mark for just the second time in program history—and the first time since 1991—closing the night with the second-highest scoring total in program history in a dominant 108–59 victory.
