Nova Southeastern Outlasts Tampa in SSC Contest
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The University of Tampa (9-14, 2-11 SSC) lost by a 61-54 score to Nova Southeastern University (13-9, 6-7 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Taft Center.
Tampa hung with the Sharks throughout the contest, until NSU scored the final seven points of the game to break a 54-54 tie with 3:13 to play.
Illyssa Vivo scored a team-high 20 points for the Spartans as Kamari Smith turned in an outstanding all-around game. Smith finished with 15 points and team-highs of 12 rebounds and two steals. Jaleesa Harmon added 14 points for the Spartans as Vivo led UT with three assists.
In an evenly played game between the two SSC schools, the difference proved to be the long-range shooting by the Sharks. Danielle Robinson connected on seven 3-pointers as the team made 12-of-20 long-range attempts. The Spartans finished with five from beyond the arc.
The Spartans return home where it will host Eckerd College on Wednesday at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
