Barry Stays Hot in Victory Over Tampa
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The University of Tampa (7-6, 1-3 SSC) women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Barry University (8-4, 3-0 SSC) team and fell by a 63-40 score on Saturday.
After leading 7-5, Tampa's offense stalled as it finished the first half with a 17.4 percent field goal percentage while connecting on just four shots from the field. The Buccaneers closed the half on a 22-9 run as it also outrebounded the Spartans 23-14 in the opening half.
Barry continued its torrid shooting pace in the second half as it finished with a 44.1 percent clip from the field. UT shot just 27.3 percent from the floor, including a 5-for-24 effort from its backcourt players.
Moriah Hodge led Tampa with a team-high 12 points as fellow post player Jaleesa Harmon added 11. Kamari Smith led all Spartans with seven rebounds while Illyssa Vivo had three assists. UT was also outrebounded 42-27 in the contest.
The Spartans will return to the court on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Fla., as it will meet SSC opponent Eckerd College at 5:30 p.m., at the MacArthur Center. Live stats and a webcast will be available through tampaspartans.com.
