Spartans Prepared To Battle Rollins In Key SSC Matchup
TAMPA, Fla. - In a rematch of last season's Sunshine State Conference tournament championship game, the 17th-ranked University of Tampa women's basketball team is set to welcome the Rollins College Tars to the Martinez Center for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
The two teams met three times last year as each squad won the regular season contest on its home floor en route to splitting the regular season conference title. Then for the fourth time in as many years, the Spartans defeated Rollins in the SSC tournament as Tampa cruised to a 55-29 victory.
It was the third occasion in that stretch that the tournament victory secured the championship for UT.
Since the 2005-06 season, no other SSC team has had as much success against Rollins as Tampa has garnered. UT has defeated the Tars in eight of the past 12 contests between the two schools. Nova Southeastern and Barry have both knocked off the Tars three times in the period.
Tampa is currently riding a program-best 12-game winning streak on its home court, a streak that dates back to UT's 71-48 victory over the Tars last Feb. 7.
