Sheena Walton Named Finalist for All-America Team

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, announced University of Tampa women's basketball player Sheena Walton as a finalist for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. The 40 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA award regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.

The senior center from Largo, Fla., has been stellar this season for the Spartans. Ranking fourth in the league with an average of 15.4 points per game, some of her most impressive numbers have come on the defensive end of the court. Walton ranks first in the SSC with an average of 10.0 rebounds per contest. She leads both the conference and all of Division II with 4.1 blocks per game. Walton tallied a season-high nine blocks in a win over Florida Southern on Jan. 23. She posted double-figure rebounds in 15 games this season, including a season-high 18 boards in Tampa's win over Lynn in the regular-season finale. A two-time SSC Player of the Week, Walton notched 14 double-double performances.

The 2006-07 All-American currently leads Tampa in points, rebounds, blocked shots and field goal percentage. Earlier this season, she passed Jessie McDowell as the school's all-time block leader, as she currently has 385. She also ranks sixth in UT history with 1,487 career points and fourth with 985 rebounds. With at least one block in every game this year, Walton has registered a blocked shot in 58 straight games.
