HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Spartans started their three game series with the Eagles this evening. The game followed a familiar script for the Spartans, low scoring. Fortunately for Tampa, they have faired well in these affairs this season, as they would look to come out on top of a pitchers duel. Also fortunate for Tampa, Gwen McGinnis was starting in the circle fresh off her perfect game last time out. McGinnis would pick up right where she left off by retiring the first 14 Eagle hitters that stepped to the plate, and in doing so would break the school record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched. McGinnis would not repeat her perfect performance, but she would go the full seven innings without allowing a runner to reach second base safely. The offense would struggle despite having a fair few hard hit balls that just wouldn't find the outfield grass. The all important breakthrough came early on when Hannah Yetter smacked a triple to right center and then proceeded to take advantage of an error to scamper home for what would prove to be the game's only run.
