Mary Beth Feldman Receives D2CCA All-America Honors
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - University of Tampa pitcher Mary Beth Feldman was honored as the 2022 NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America Softball team was announced.
Shippenburg's Hannah Marsteller and Minnesota State's Mackenzie Warrd earned the Ron Lenz Player and Pitcher of the Year awards respectively. A total of 42 student-athletes landed on either the first, second or third team All- America squad while 14 garnered honorable mention honors.
Feldman a sophomore pitcher from Lithia, Fla., enjoyed instant success as a Spartan following her transfer from the University of Utah. In 21 games this season, Feldman led the Sunshine State Conference champions to an NCAA South 2 Region finals appearance. She went 14-1 on the season, notching an ERA of 0.69. In 112.1 innings of work, she tallied 94 strikeouts.
Among SSC pitchers, Feldman was the league's leader in earned run average, opposing batting average, lowest runs allowed and lowest earned runs allowed. She also ranked among national leaders, currently sitting first in NCAA Division II in earned run average, 13th in hits allowed per seven innings and ninth in WHIP.
Feldman becomes the sixth player in program history to be named an All-American and the first since Makaleigh Dooley in 2019.
The D2CCA All-America and All-Region softball teams, which are selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from schools playing Division II softball, were first established in 2007. This year represents the seventh year in which the Division II Conference Commissioners Association solely sponsored the program.
Marsteller became the fourth player to win multiple D2CCA Softball Player of the Year honors, and the third to do so in consecutive seasons. She leads the nation with a .521 average and a .588 on-base percentage Her .933 slugging percentage ranks fourth. She also places inside the top 10 in hits, total bases and home runs. She set the PSAC record with a 37-game hit streak.
Ward joins former Maverick ace Coley Ries as the program's second Lenz Pitcher of the Year. She posted a 30-5 record with a 0.97 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. She recorded 16 shutouts in her 34 starts and struck out 344 batters in 238.2 innings pitched. She finished her season as the national leader in fewest hits allowed per seven innings (3.28). Joining Marsteller and Ward on the D2CCA All-America first team include Arkansas Tech second baseman Tymber Riley and designated player Caitlyn Wells, Augustana outfielder Mary Pardo, Biola pitcher Paige Austin, Central Oklahoma outfielder Jacee Minter, Grand Valley State shortstop Lydia Goble, McKendree outfielder Olivia Stansbury, Mount Olive third baseman Kylie Emanuele, Rogers State pitcher Andrea Morales, UT Tyler catcher Ashley Perez, Washburn's two-way player Jaycee Ginter and Winona State utility player Abbie Hlas.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
