No. 17 Spartans Sweep Tritons Securing Coaches 700th Victory
Tampa, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team again went up against the Eckerd College Tritons in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to conclude their weekend series.

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
Bottom 2nd
Lexie Chevalier doubled after a deep hit to center field bounced off the wall. Emalee Jansen then hit a base hit to center field in hopes of scoring Chevalier; unfortunately, Chevalier was thrown out at home. Head coach Leslie Kanter stormed out of the dugout to question the umpire over the controversial call.
Bottom 3rd
Lauren Fantone hit a triple down the right-field line. The Triton's right fielder, Cardona, overthrew the play, causing Fantone to score for the Spartans first run | 1-0 (Spartans).
Mariah Galhouse would then single to left field, but an error would advance her to second base. With a runner in scoring position, Corynn Miner comes up. Miner hit a double to left-center to ensure that Galhouse would score | 2-0 (Spartans).
Top 5th
Galhouse was on the verge of a no-hitter until Tritons' Casanas hit a single to give the Tritons their first hit of the game. Galhouse now had two on base with only one out. A ground ball would turn into a 4-3 double play to end the top of the 5th | 2-0 (Spartans).
Top 7th
Galhouse struck out the first two batters looking to get her sixth and seventh strikeouts of the day. A groundout to shortstop would end the game as Galhouse pitched yet another complete game.

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
Bottom 1st
Balmer singled up the middle for the first hit for the Spartans. The next at-bat was Galhouse, who singled to left field, continuing her hitting streak. There's one out and two men on base; one man in scoring position. A perfect situation for Miner as she steps up to the plate, she singles up the middle, scoring Balmer and putting Galhouse in scoring position | 1-0 (Spartans).
Alexa Russo would then ground out to second, gaining an RBI and moving up Miner to second | 2-0 (Spartans).
Top 3rd
The Tritons' Soterakis was hit by a pitch giving Mary Beth Feldman her walk of the game.
Bottom 3rd
Galhouse got a base on balls to get on base to start the inning. Galhouse then attempted to steal second base and was successful after a late throw. After Miner flew out to left, the slasher, Russo came up and got a base hit to right field on the first pitch. Scoring is Galhouse for the third run | 3-0 (Spartans).
A single by Chevalier and a walk by Jansen would have the base loaded for the Spartans looking to increase the score. However, Miranda Perez struck out to end the inning.
Top 5th
Tritons' got their first hit of the second game with a double by Casanas, ending Feldman's no-hitter.
Top 7th
Feldman once again hit another batter. Then threw another pitch to advance the runner to second. Tritons' Cardona singled to left field, and that was the end of Feldman's night as Galhouse came in to close out the game. Galhouse, who previously pitched a complete game earlier, came in and struck out the next batter swinging to end the game.
