TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team will close out the regular season with a three-game SSC series against the Florida Southern College Mocs. UT is coming off their first conference series loss after going 1-2 at Eckerd last weekend while FSC is also coming off a series loss, dropping two of three games to the Nova Southeastern University Sharks. In between the two games on Saturday, the seniors participating in the series will be recognized.
Date/Time: Friday, March 28th at 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 29th beginning at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
Location: Naimoli Family Softball Field | Tampa, Fla.
About the Spartans: With just one more series left in the regular season, UT stands at 28-10 on the season and 15-6 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Spartans are led on offense by Bre Setree and Elly Pillers, with Setree leading the team with a .383 AVG and Pillers second at .336. The pitching duo of Makaleigh Dooley and Corynn Miner have continued their strong seasons as they are both coming in with ERAs under 2.0. Dooley comes into the series with a 16-7 record and has 112 strikeouts. In the meantime, Miner comes in with a 1.79 ERA and has allowed just 30 earned runs in 117 innings of work.
About the Moccasins: Florida Southern comes into the series with a 15-23 record this year and 6-15 in SSC play. The Mocs dropped two of three games to NSU last weekend with their win being 3-2 in 8 innings. The FSC offense is led by Shannon Bell who is hitting .338 and Erica Morrissey who comes in with a .321 AVG. In the circle, the Moccasins have turned primarily to Brandi Jones and Kristen Beacham. Jones has a team-leading 2.31 ERA in 112.1 innings of work and 66 strikeouts while Beacham has a 2.60 ERA in 70 innings tossed with 73 hits given up.
Series History: Tampa trails 37-52 in the all-time series against Florida Southern. Last season, the Spartans won each of the first two games of the series 3-0 before FSC took the finale 3-1.
