Tampa Takes Game Two Over Barry With Walk-Off Single
TAMPA, Fla. - Coming up to the plate with the
bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Sahrina Cortes hit an
RBI-single just past the infield, earning Tampa (18-9, 6-6 SSC) the
2-1 game-two victory over the Barry Buccaneers (23-8, 7-2 SSC) on
Sunday afternoon.
Senior pitcher Julia Morrow threw two complete games with 19
strikeouts on the day, including a two-hitter in the final contest
of the series.
Game two came down to the bottom of the seventh as Barry scored
early on forcing the Spartans to fight back since the fourth
inning. Colletti led off the seventh with a single down the left
line. Taylor Szostak dropped an RBI-single into the gap, evening up
the score at one. Cortes came up to the plate with bases loaded and
hit a perfectly placed single bringing home Kelsey Humphrey and
clinching the 2-1 win.
In the premier game of the double header, the Spartans jumped on
the board when Alyssa Colletti slugged an RBI-single to advance Bre
Setree home in the second inning. Kandi Kuder followed up in the
fifth with an RBI-single to center field, upping Tampa's lead to
two.
Barry's Dee Espinosa batted in three runners to spark the
Buccaneers' come back as they put three runs on the board in each
of the final two innings finalizing the score, 6-2.
Tampa returns to action on Friday at 6 p.m. to host Sunshine State
Conference opponent Florida Southern College. Live stats will be
