Kayla Cox Named South Region Pitcher of the Year

PENSACOLA, Fla. - University of Tampa softball player Kayla Cox has been rewarded for a stellar 2013 season as the Daktronics South Region Pitcher of the Year, as announced Monday.

Also a first-team all-region selection, Cox becomes the second Spartan to record the honor as Deanna Henriott was the regional pitcher of the year in 2012. Cox is also a repeat performer at first-team all-region.

Throwing seven no-hitters, the national leader in ERA and strikeouts per seven innings compiled a 25-6 overall record and 0.74 ERA. She also registered a school-record 332 strikeouts in 208.1 innings. Opposing hitters were just .115 against the junior right-hander.
