No. 17 Spartans Battle to Victory Over Tritons
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The No. 17 University of Tampa (23-8, 11-5 SSC) softball team defeated Eckerd College (17-25, 4-12 SSC) at Turley Complex on Friday by a score of 3-0.
Kayla Cox started for the Spartans and earned her 18th victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 complete innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing four hits.
Meagan Burke belted a homerun to center in the top of the fourth to open the scoring. Karlyn Buker followed with an RBI base hit that scored Taylor Storey and Katlyn Raatz to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.
Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Tritons loaded the bases in the seventh but were unable to mount a comeback. The Spartan defense held strong to come away with the win.
Kandi Kuder also contributed for Tampa with two base hits on the evening.
UT will return to action Saturday afternoon at Eckerd to conclude the series with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
