No. 17 Tampa Ready for Series Against SSC Foe No. 11 Rollins
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 17 University of Tampa (24-3, 9-0 SSC) softball team is set for a weekend series against Sunshine State Conference (SSC) rival No. 11 Rollins College (23-4, 6-0 SSC) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Vince Naimoli Softball Field.
UT has an all-time record against Rollins of 37-37. They last met in 2011, which resulted in a 3-1 victory for Tampa. However, Rollins did take the season series by 2-1.
The Spartans' had their 83.0 scoreless innings streak ended in a three game series sweep against the Saint Leo Lions. The 83.0 scoreless innings streak is now an NCAA Division II record and program record.
Tampa is lead by stellar starting pitching from Deanna Henriott and Kayla Cox. The two aces have combined for a 0.82 ERA and 318 strikeouts. Cox is also currently riding a 37.1 scoreless innings streak.
Dual-sport athlete Meagan Burke was named SSC Player of the Week this past week for her strong performance at the dish. The freshman batted .714 with three runs and three RBI over the weekend. Her most impressive outing came in a 3-0 win in the opener against Saint Leo, as she went 3-for-3 with a triple and a home run.
Head Coach Leslie Kanter currently has her squad on a 16 game win streak dating back to the win against Pittsburgh State (02/19/2012).
