Spartans Filet Sailfish in Saturday Double-Header
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 24 University of Tampa (11-3) softball team swept Palm Beach Atlantic University (13-8) in a double-header Saturday afternoon at Vince Naimoli Softball Field.
Tampa won the first game by a score of two to nothing, and the second game, an extra inning affair, by a score of two to one in eight innings.
Senior Deanna Henriott threw her first no-hitter of the season to improve her record to 6-2. The native of Saint Petersburg, Fla. hurled 7.0 innings with nine strikeouts. PBA's lone base runner reached base via hit-by-pitch.
UT scored early by a timely steal by Katlyn Raatz to allow Meagan Burke to score from third. Burke finished the game with one double and one run, while Raatz had one base hit.
The Spartans sent Kayla Cox to start the second game where she went 8.0 innings with 12 strikeouts and one run allowed. She earned the win and improved her record to 5-1.
Stacy Piagno was the top performer on offense for UT, as she registered two base hits and two RBI. Becky Vyzas also contributed with two base hits.
Tampa will head to Clermont, Fla. tomorrow to play a double-header against the University of Mary and Wilmington University. Live stats will be available through tampaspartans.com.
