Dream Season Comes To End For Tampa Softball
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Arkansas-Monticello in the NCAA South Regional. The Spartans see its season come to an end at 39-9 while the Cotton Blossoms (45-15) advance to the regional semifinals versus West Alabama.
The Spartan offense tallied just four hits on the day, with two coming off the bat of Brie Walton. UAM pitcher Kayla Jackson had just four strikeouts, but the Cotton Blossom defense played a perfect game with no errors.
Kari Walsh turned in another spectacular outing for UT as the senior allowed just one run on five hits in 6.0 innings of work. The deciding play was a sixth inning home run off the bat of Jackson.
Tampa's 2011 season comes to an end with a school record victories and notable records from pitcher Deanna Henriott and catcher Becky Vyzas. Henriott set new records in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched while Vyzas broke the home run record. Both will be back for UT in 2012.
