Three Spartans Earn Spot On Academic All-District Team
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team placed three individuals on the Capital One Academic All-District team, including two on the first team. The three Spartans represent the third district in the college division.
Pitchers Deanna Henriott and Kari Walsh both earned a spot on the first team as outfielder Cassie Barnes was a second-team choice.
Henriott, a junior elementary education major from St. Petersburg, Fla., has re-written the Spartan record books and also excelled in the classroom. With a GPA of 3.40, she also has a 24-4 record with a 0.65 ERA and a team-high 264 strikeouts.
Walsh, a senior from Palm City, Fla., carries a 3.92 GPA in nursing. The pitcher has formed a dynamic duo with Henriott as she is 14-3 on the year to go with a 1.44 ERA and 75 strikeouts.
Barnes, a senior outfielder from Acworth, Ga., owns a 3.60 GPA while majoring in biology/pre-med. She is second on the team with a .330 batting average and has a home run and 17 RBI on the year.
As first-team selections, both Henriott and Walsh will now appear on the national ballot for Academic All-America. The UT softball program will be looking for its first Academic All-American in program history.
