Spartans Rise In Latest NFCA Poll
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The University of Tampa softball team continues to climb the national ranks as the squad moves up three spots in the NFCA Division II poll claiming the No. 15 rank as released in the latest poll.
Currently 35-7, Tampa opened the season with a school record 12 consecutive victories while also setting a record for the best start in program history going 15-1.
Last week the Spartans swept Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Southern College in a three game series on the sand of the UT softball field to inch its way up in the SSC standings in hopes to capture a spot in the NCAA South Regional.
Tampa is one of four NCAA South Region teams as Alabama-Huntsville (1), Valdosta State (4) and Rollins (5) also appear in the top-25.
The Spartans will finish out the 2011 regular season this weekend as the team travels to face Eckerd College in a three game series with competition beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a doubleheader on Friday with the first game slated for 6 p.m.
