Henriott, Spartans Victorious In Record Setting Outing
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 18 University of Tampa (33-7, 14-5 SSC) softball team defeated Florida Southern College (20-18, 8-8 SSC) in an important late season Sunshine State Conference win Friday night at the UT Softball Field. The Spartans defeated the Moccasins by a score of 1-0.
Deanna Henriott pitched her way into the record books by tying Paula Proch for all-time wins with 64 for her career. Proch previously held the record when pitching for the Spartans from 1990-93. The Saint Petersburg native tossed 7.0 innings of shutout ball with 12 strikeouts and three hits allowed increasing her record to 21-4 on the year.
Cassie Barnes started the Spartans offense off in the top of the fourth inning scoring the only run of the game following a Brittany Joseph single.
Becky Vyzas, Elizabeth Milhan and Barnes all recorded a team-high two hits for the night as Joseph tabbed a team-best one RBI.
Tampa returns to the field tomorrow for a senior day doubleheader series against the Moccasins with games beginning at 1 p.m.
