Tampa Splits Doubleheader With Saint Leo To Take Series
ST. LEO, Fla. - The No. 10 University of Tampa (29-4, 10-2 SSC) softball team capped off the weekend series against Saint Leo University (20-22, 4-8 SSC) with a doubleheader split. The Spartans took a loss in the first game by a score of 4-3. In the second game, Tampa avenged the loss with a defeat of the Lions by a score of 2-1.
In the first game, Deanna Henriott took the loss bringing her record to 18-2. She pitched 6.0 innings, struck out seven and walking one batter. Only two of Saint Leo's four runs were earned.
Katlyn Raatz started the Spartans offensive attack with a double down the right field line in the second inning. She would finish the day with one hit and two RBI. Brittany Joseph added a run in the sixth inning. Becky Vyzas and Cassie Barnes chipped in with one hit each.
Kari Walsh started in the circle for the second game. She hurled
5.1 innings of shutout ball with three strikeouts and allowed four
hits. Henriott came on in relief against the Lions. While earning
her third save of the year, she pitched 1.2 innings, struck out
five and allowed one run.

The Spartans took an early lead against Saint Leo. Cassie Barnes
drove in the first run of the game with a single to left. Elizabeth
Milhan added some insurance in the top of the fifth with an RBI
single to right. Barnes and Milhan each finished pair of hits and
drove in one run. Julie Wisniewski added three hits, and Brittany
Hipple had two hits.
The Spartans will travel to Winter Park, Fla. next weekend to take on Rollins College in a three game series. The series will begin on Friday at 7 p.m. with a doubleheader the day after. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
