Tampa Strikes First In SSC Series With Saint Leo
ST. LEO, Fla. - The No. 10 University of Tampa (28-3, 9-1 SSC) softball team defeated Saint Leo University (19-21, 3-7 SSC) by a score of 3-0. The game was the first in a series with its Sunshine State Conference meeting with the Lions.
Deanna Henriott improved her record to 18-1 while defeating the Lions. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native hurled a shutout with 7.0 innings with six strikeouts, no walks, and allowing just two hits.
The Spartan offense was relatively tamed throughout the game, but scored the needed runs to earn the victory. They spurted for two runs in the second inning as the first basemen committed an error from a grounder off of the bat of Susan Jallo.
Jallo, Elizabeth Milhan, Brittany Hipple, and Brittany Joseph chipped in two hits each. Jallo and Cassie Barnes each drove in a run.
