Tampa Survives Florida Tech In Walk Off Fashion
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 13 University of Tampa (21-3, 6-1 SSC) softball team defeated the Florida Tech Panthers (12-12, 0-4 SSC) in the first of a three game series by a score of 1-0 after extra innings.
The game was controlled by pitching and defense as the teams took a 0-0 tie into the seventh. Deanna Henriott continued to dominate her opponents improving her record to 14-1. She pitched 9.0 scoreless innings, allowed three hits, and struck out 15.
The Spartan offense was led by Cassie Barnes and Julie Wisniewski who collected two hits each. Susan Jallo was active on the base paths as she stole three bases.
The game took a turn in the bottom of the seventh as the Florida Tech coach was ejected for arguing an umpire's decision.
Brittany Hipple smacked a punch out to left center field for the game winning blow leaving Tampa with a walk-off win after a Brie Walton score.
The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow to play a double-header against Florida Tech with competition starting at 1 p.m.
