Tampa Makes First Appearance In National Softball Poll
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Due to its hot start in the 2011 season, The University of Tampa softball team has garnered additional attention as the No. 16 team in the current NFCA Division II Poll.
Tampa is one of five NCAA South Region teams as Valdosta State (2), Alabama-Huntsville (4), Arkansas-Monticello (12) and Rollins (18) also appears in the top-25.
This marks the first ranking since the 2009 season when UT was the preseason No. 10 and also appeared at No. 23 midseason. The highest ranking in school history is No. 4 in the second week of 2002.
Currently 12-1, Tampa is off to its best start since beginning the year 14-1 in both 2000 and 2002. UT has also currently won nine straight games, one shy of its school record that has occurred on three occasions (2002, 2007 and 2009).
The Spartans return to action on Friday in Clermont, Fla., as it will play in five games in three days at the National Training Complex.
