Kari Walsh Garners Academic All-District Honors
TAMPA, Fla. - University of Tampa softball player Kari Walsh has been honored as a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection. She becomes the first Spartan in program history to earn the academic honors.
The junior pitcher from Palm Bay, Fla., is also the reigning Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week and concluded the 2010 campaign with a 9-7 record to go with a 2.65 ERA. While throwing three shutouts, she also notched 87 strikeouts.
While carrying a 3.91 cumulative GPA in the classroom, the nursing major was previously a member of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. A recipient of the UT Presidential and Bright Futures Scholarships, she also volunteered for the March of Dimes and Relay for Life Walsh has also donated time at Martin Memorial Hospital and various softball camps.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
