Spartans See Victory Slip Away At Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (18-14, 9-7 SSC) softball team was unable to hold a late inning lead on the road as it fell to Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University (29-20, 11-8 SSC) on Friday night by a 2-1 tally.
The Spartans struck in the third frame as Shannon Kelly started the inning with a single. Jessica Tejas would walk with the bases loaded to earn the lone RBI, scoring Kelly.
Kayla Monroy provided the Buccaneers with a lift as she tied the game with a home run. With two down and a runner on third, Grace Collins provided an infield hit, scoring the winning run.
Brittany Dattilo, celebrating a birthday, contributed to the offense with a hit while Becky Vyzas contributed with a pair of hits.
Heather Van Landingham (10-9) pitched the distance for the Spartans while striking out six and walking a pair.
