#10 Rollins Powers Past Tampa
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (18-11, 9-4 SSC) softball team struck first but it was not enough as No. 10 Rollins College (30-4, 9-1 SSC) claimed a 6-2 victory in a matchup between the top two teams in the Sunshine State Conference.
Julie Wisniewski led off for the Spartans and clubbed a double to center field and scored the first run on a wild pitch. The Tars answered with a run in the second followed by a pair in the third.
A fourth inning run was not enough for UT as the Tars crossed another in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Heather Van Landingham (10-7) started for the Spartans and threw 3.2 innings, striking out six. Kari Walsh finished the game for UT, hurling the final 3.1 innings.
Wisniewski finished the contest with two hits and the lone RBI as Susan Jallo and Ashley Carrea each added hits to aid UT's offensive effort.
The teams will finish the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for noon at the UT Softball Field. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
