Spartans Shut Out Panthers
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team continues its winning streak after defeating Florida Tech (13-13; 4-6 SSC) 4-0 in a conference meeting on Friday.
The victory marks the fifth consecutive for the Spartans as they improve to 14-9 (5-2 SSC).
UT started its scoring in the third frame as third baseman Susan Jallo sent the 1-0 offering over the left field wall.
The Spartans would add insurance in the sixth, plating a trio of runs. Jallo started the frame with a single and scored courtesy of a Brittany Hipple RBI double. Jessica Tejas followed with a base hit of her own and was followed by an RBI single off the bat of Cassie Barnes, scoring pinch-runner Brie Walton. Tejas later scored on a failed pickoff attempt by FIT's catcher.
Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week Heather Van Landingham (7-6) continued her dominance as she went the distance for the Spartans, allowing two hits, two walks and registering one strikeout. The shutout marks her third consecutive appearance without allowing a run.
