Spartans Salvage Doubleheader Split With Palm Beach Atlantic
TAMPA, Fla. - After a 2-0 loss in game one of a doubleheader with Palm Beach Atlantic University (13-5), The University of Tampa (8-6) softball team rebounded with a 2-1 triumph in the final game of the afternoon.
In the first game, PBA capitalized on a pair of unearned runs to earn the win. UT starting pitcher Heather Van Landingham (3-4) had six strikeouts while allowing just two hits in 7.0 innings pitched.
Tampa scored each of its runs in first inning of game two, both unearned on a Sailfish throwing error. Julie Wisniewski and Susan Jallo each scored a run as pitcher Kari Walsh (5-2) went the distance for the Spartans.
UT is back in action on Friday as it opens Sunshine State Conference play at Nova Southeastern University. The first of the three game set is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
