UT Takes Seventh Spot In Regional Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Tampa softball team is ranked seventh in the recent NCAA II South Region rankings as the NCAA tournament field is scheduled to be announced on Sunday.
A total of eight South Region teams will receive a bid to the 2009 NCAA II South Regional, with the top two teams most likely hosting the opening round.
The Sunshine State Conference (SSC), Gulf South Conference (GSC) and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) will all receive automatic bids to the South Regional. Florida Southern and Rollins split the SSC championship while Miles will represent the SIAC as its league champion. The GSC tournament is scheduled to begin Friday.
At 27-12, UT also finished the regular season with a 14-8 SSC record. The Spartans took two of three games from No. 17 Florida Southern to finish the season and registered six victories over national top-25 teams this season.
The NCAA South Regional is scheduled for May 9-10 at a pair of campus sites.
